The forklift is a material handling machinery used to raise and move loads from one place to another. Every component of a forklift has a particular function. Various components can be utilized to move the load horizontally or vertically.

Mast
The components used to lift and lower the load is known as the forklift mast. There are different kinds of masts for lifting loads to different heights: simplex, duplex, triplex and quad.

Power Supply
There are four various ways you could power a forklift: electric, gas, propane and diesel. The battery is situated in the cab under the seat. The propane tank is on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on gas and diesel forklifts is under the back of the truck.

Cab
The forklift cab is situated in the center of the truck. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The gas pedal, steering wheel, lifting controls, tilting controls and brake are all situated in the cab.

Frame
Carrying all the largest forklift parts is the frame of the truck. This includes the counterweights located at the back which prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the driveshaft, axles and wheels.
