History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in the year 1919. The company was initially founded by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in modern drilling and oil drilling technology. The first name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
In the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was acquired by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling machines. During 1986, the company bought the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into a global brand in the following years.
