Narrow aisle forklifts
Narrow aisle forklifts are normally used in warehousing applications. These forklifts are essential tools within the industry as their small size and extreme maneuverability allow warehouses to make the most of storing space. They can easily go around aisles that are 1.8 meters wide, while standard lift trucks require 3.4 meters of aisle width, at least.
The two types are "narrow aisle forklift" and the "very narrow aisle forklift". The first need 2.4 meters - 3 meters in aisle width, whereas the latter can function in a 1.8 meters wide space.
The design of a narrow aisle forklift includes forks positioned at right angles to the body of the truck. The trucks do not have to face the shelves, but instead drive straight down the aisle picking up loads to the side. This particular design feature is the key to their suitability for tight spaces.
Some very narrow aisle forklifts come with optical or wire guidance systems which ensure the forklift moves in a straight line down the aisle, which leaves the operator free to concentrate on load picking and placement.
The cushion tires that come with these kinds of lifts are made of solid rubber. The hard tires perform well on concrete floors and paved, smooth surfaces. Narrow aisle forklifts have electric motors suited for use within indoor environments. Propane-powered versions are available also.
