Hazards of Type-G lift trucks
Forklifts carry out an essential part in the operations of warehouses and other businesses. These machinery are capable of lifting and moving huge loads from one place to another. There are numerous variations on the lift truck. The main variation is the way in which different units are fueled. "LP" forklifts are the most popular kind. They utilize liquid propane. Type "E" forklifts have large rechargeable batteries and operate on electricity. Type "D" lift trucks are powered by diesel and type "G" use gasoline. While all kinds of forklifts, similar to any piece of heavy machine, could pose a hazard, the kind of lift trucks that are powered by gasoline carry the most risks.
Fire
Forklifts labelled type G can present a fire hazard. Gas lift trucks are not made with the same rigorous standards. Gas leaks are the biggest cause of fire due mainly to gas leaks and also escaped gas fumes. This could result from accidents and from driving on really rough terrain or normal wear. These circumstances pose a risk and could lead to fire. Thus, a typical Type G forklift must never be used in conditions where elevated fire risk is deemed not acceptable. Like for example, these units should not be utilized around dangerous or explosive chemicals.
Explosion
Type G lift trucks also pose a risk of explosion, as do those which operate on diesel and liquid propane. A gasoline fueled forklift can explode as a result of a serious accident in circumstances where an ignition source and a gasoline leak are present. An explosion can take place when sparks are created in the collision and the sparks ignite the gasoline.
Fumes and Exhaust
Type G forklifts pose a serious inhalation hazard because of toxic fumes. Gasoline fumes can be deadly in high concentrations. Fumes could result from the exhaust itself or from gasoline leaks. Thus, a Type G forklift is not recommended for any environment that is poorly ventilated. The exhaust would present a serious hazard in enclosed spaces. This type of lift truck should be utilized carefully when operated in close proximity to individuals.
